Club Introduction

Puijon Jousi ry

In Kuopio, we have tried to make it easy to start archery. Members of the club do not need to purchase their own equipment at the beginning of the hobby, but archery equipment is available to start the hobby.

As skills increase, it becomes relevant to purchase your own equipment and members are advised on purchasing their own bow.

Activities include joint training according to the Event Calendar. The club has a playful internal competition (divari) every month, where everyone can test their own progress. Puijon Jousen has competing members in archery and longbow classes.

Puijon Jousi is a member of SJAL.

Archery as a Hobby

Archery:

  • is suitable for everyone, regardless of age and gender.
  • is an excellent hobby for the whole family, as it is a skill sport.
  • develops the athlete's ability to concentrate and control their body.
  • can be a way to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while, self-development on your own terms or top-level sport with competitions.

There are many different bows and competition formats. Bows can be divided into two main categories. Some have sighting devices and some bows are shot without sights (reflex bows). Bows equipped with a sight include, for example, the recurve olympic bow and the compound bow.

A recurve olympic bow is a type of bow used in the Olympics. The traditional longbow is an example of a bow without a sight (belongs to reflex bows). In addition to target shooting, terrain and 3D shooting are also practiced.

There are competition categories from under 11 years old to over 80 years old.
